Week 13 was an awesome week of NFL action, with games spread out throughout the holiday week. Now, it is time to look ahead to some of the great games lined up for Week 14 of the season. In an afternoon primetime spot, the Chicago Bears are traveling west to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Throughout this article, we will give you a Week 13 recap from each team while previewing this matchup. Let’s jump right in.
The Bears had one of the more tumultuous weeks of any team in the NFL in Week 13. They lost heartbreakingly on Thanksgiving to the Lions 23-20. Newly fired head coach Matt Eberflus’ poor clock management cost them the game and ultimately led to his firing on Friday afternoon.
Thomas Brown will take over the head coaching duties for the rest of this season. Brown has called plays for the offense the last few weeks and done a great job with QB Caleb Williams. After a slow start in the first half of the Week 13 matchup, Williams had an incredible second half. He finished the day 20-39 for 256 yards and three touchdowns, all coming in the second half.
DJ Moore was on the receiving end of one touchdown while also catching eight balls for 97 yards. Then you had Keenan Allen catching the other two touchdowns from Williams and finished with five catches for 73 yards. The guy in the offense who could not get it going was D’Andre Swift, who saw just 11 carries for 35 yards. To be fair to Swift, the Bears had to abandon the run after being down 16-0 at one point.
The 49ers had a rough Week 13 like the Bears did. The 49ers traveled across the country into a snow environment to lose to the Bills 35-10. On top of the loss, they suffered an even bigger loss. It looks like star RB Christian McCaffrey will miss the remainder of the season with a lower-body injury.
With that happening, you could feel the life from the 49ers team get sucked out of them. The offense could never get going during the blizzard-like environment. Brock Purdy, who came into this game banged up, threw for just 94 yards on 18 attempts. With Purdy only throwing for 94 yards, the 49ers top pass catcher was Jauan Jennings, with three catches for 56 yards. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle combined for just five catches for 27 yards.
The 49ers most productive player on the night was Jordan Mason. He carried the ball 13 times and totaled 78 yards. However, he also suffered a high ankle sprain and will likely miss the next few weeks. The lone touchdown for this offense scored in Week 13 came from Isaac Guerendo, who had four carries for 19 yards. Everything and anything went wrong for the 49ers in Week 13.
Both teams are desperate for wins, which makes for an enticing matchup. The Bears need to start building a winning culture in the locker room. While the 49ers may sit with a record of 5-7, they are just two games out of first place in the loss column with five to go. Even with all the injuries, the 49ers should still have enough pieces to make a run starting this week.
While going through this matchup, one thing stuck out to me. That is the Bears being beaten up on the ground this season. The Bears have allowed the sixth most rushing yards in the league this season and 10 touchdowns in 12 games. The Bears allowed the Lions to rush for 197 yards, 124 to the Vikings and 106 rushing yards to the Packers in their last three games.
Even without Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers will want to rely on their running game. We also can not forget how good Isaac Guerendo was earlier this season as the lead-back. In his two games with 10+ carries, he recorded 85 and 99 rushing yards. With that said, our Bears @ 49ers pick is on Isaac Guerendo recording more than 75 yards rushing in this one.
