Week 1 of the NFL season was great, but now it is time to turn the page to Week 2. One of the biggest games of the weekend is the Sunday Night Football matchup. We have two future star quarterbacks squaring off, with Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears taking on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans.
In this article, we dive into our Bears @ Texans picks and break down this Sunday Night Football matchup in Houston.
Both the Bears and the Texans won in Week 1. The Bears were able to take care of business at home against the Tennessee Titans, while the Texans beat the Colts on the road.
There was a ton of hype surrounding this Bears offense heading into the season. Perhaps you can attribute most of them to Hard Knocks because they did not show up in this game. According to ESPN Stats and info, the Bears are the first team in NFL history to win a game where they trailed by at least 17 points and had fewer than 150 total yards.
The Bears offense had a rough day, which led to number one overall pick Caleb Williams struggling. Williams finished the day 14-29 for just 93 yards. One bright spot for him was that he did not turn the ball over. The Titans defensive line dominated the Bears offensive line in this one. It caused the Bears to not run the ball well against Jonathan Simmons and the Titans defense. They averaged just 3.8 yards per carry as a team.
It was the Bears defense leading them to victory in this one, sacking Will Levis three times and intercepting him twice, including one pick-six. The Bears special teams also had a good day, blocking a punt and Jonathan Owens scooping and scoring.
As for the Texans, they beat the Indianapolis Colts in a close one, 29-27 on the road. Even though the score was close, it felt like the Houston Texans were in control of this one. The offensive line had a good day run blocking for running back Joe Mixon.
The Texans were committed to the run all day, giving Mixon a whopping 30 carries. It paid off for 159 yards and a touchdown. Stroud was also a solid game manager for the day, going 24-32 and two touchdowns. Stroud linked up twice with Stefon Diggs, who came over from the Buffalo Bills this offseason. Newly extended Nico Collins also had a big day, catching six balls for 117 yards. It was a great day for the Texans offense.
With two quarterbacks who could be stars in the NFL one day, it makes for an exciting Week 2 Sunday Night Football matchup. Both of these teams have solid defenses on paper. We already mentioned how well the Bears defense played against the Titans. They flew all over the field, hitting hard and forcing turnovers.
This Texans defense struggled to contain Anthony Richardson in Week 1, but Caleb Williams isn’t the same type of quarterback. This Texans defense is littered with star power, with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson on the defensive line. While also having Derek Stingley Jr. and Jalen Pitre in the secondary. They could make life tough for Caleb Williams in this one.
Our first Bears @ Texans pick is that there will be fewer than 46 points scored in this game. With so much star power on both defenses, plus both head coaches being defensive-minded, we expect this game to be low-scoring.
Our second Bears @ Texans pick is for the Houston Texans to win this game by a touchdown. Even though we believe the Bears defense is very good, this Texans offense is a different animal littered with playmakers. We expect a fun matchup, with both quarterbacks making great plays. However, we believe the Texans will beat the Bears 24-17 at home in this Sunday Night Football matchup.
