We used the latest version of ChatGPT’s AI tool – Deep Research – to predict the outcome of every remaining Champions League game right up to the final in Munich. AI correctly predicted the winners of 7 out of the 8 Round of 16 match-ups, the one slip up being when PSG knocked out Liverpool on penalties.
We have asked the AI Super Computer to remake its predictions based on PSG advancing instead of the Reds, and you can scroll down to find out what the quarter-finals, semis and final have in store.
If you want to avoid spoilers then stop reading now, because here is what the latest generation of AI predicts will happen!
Liverpool have been in scintillating form, dominating the Premier League (holding a 20-point lead over Man City) and topping the Champions League league phase standings. Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds play an intense pressing game and will fancy their chances. However, PSG are in-form as well – they obliterated Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the playoffs – and boast a dynamic attack (with the likes of Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stepping up). This matchup pits PSG’s firepower against Liverpool’s high-tempo style.
Prediction – Liverpool: Liverpool’s experience and current momentum help them edge a close tie, with their organized defense containing PSG’s attackers at key moments.
Aston Villa are enjoying a fairy-tale return to top European action – this is their first Champions League knockout appearance since 1983. Unai Emery’s side, though only mid-table domestically, showed their quality by finishing in the top 8 of the league phase. Emery is a knockout specialist, but Club Brugge have proven they can trouble Villa, having beaten them in the group stage under Emery. Brugge sit second in the Belgian league with 52 points and bring a well-drilled, counterattacking setup.
Prediction – Aston Villa: Villa’s superior individual quality and Emery’s tactical savvy see them prevail over two legs, but not without a scare from the disciplined Belgian underdogs.
Arsenal enter this tie coping with an untimely injury crisis – they have no fit natural striker at the moment. The Gunners remain a formidable side (second in the Premier League), but their attack has leaned on midfielders and wingers for goals recently. PSV, meanwhile, are title challengers in the Netherlands and will be confident, especially noting Arsenal beat them 4-0 in last year’s group stage. Tactically, Arsenal’s quick passing game could trouble PSV’s defense, though finishing chances might be an issue.
Prediction- Arsenal: Despite a valiant effort from PSV, Arsenal’s midfield dominance and European experience should carry them through, likely in a tight aggregate scoreline given their injury woes up front.
A mouth-watering Madrid derby awaits in this round. Reigning champions Real Madrid had a shaky league phase but hit top gear by thumping Man City 6-3 on aggregate in the playoff. Carlo Ancelotti’s men (now bolstered by stars like Jude Bellingham and perhaps Kylian Mbappé) have rediscovered their scoring touch. Atlético, on the other hand, qualified directly and are neck-and-neck with Real in La Liga (just one point apart). The two played out two 1-1 draws in the league this season, highlighting how evenly matched they are. Expect a clash of styles: Real’s attacking flair vs. Atleti’s tenacious defending.
Prediction – Real Madrid: Real Madrid’s pedigree and big-game mentality give them the edge – they will find a way past Diego Simeone’s stubborn defense, perhaps by a one-goal margin over 180 minutes.
This pairing promises goals. Barcelona and Benfica produced a 5-4 thriller in the league phase just last month, with Barça winning thanks to a 96th-minute strike by Raphinha. Barça coach Hansi Flick knows his side must tighten up at the back, as Benfica “did a lot of damage” in that chaotic match. Benfica are performing well (second in Portugal) and have an attack capable of troubling the Catalans again. However, Barcelona’s firepower – led by veterans like Robert Lewandowski and youthful talents – gives them an advantage if they can avoid another defensive lapse.
Prediction – Barcelona: Barcelona to advance in an open tie, with their experience and individual brilliance proving just enough to outscore Benfica over two legs.
Last season’s finalists Borussia Dortmund bring significant European pedigree into this matchup. Despite losing some stars in recent years, Dortmund have a cohesive, high-intensity team (evident in their comfortable dispatch of Sporting CP in the playoffs). Lille, however, are no pushovers – they impressed by finishing 7th in the Champions League league phase (earning a direct round of 16 spot). The French side might not have household names, but they are well-organized and quick on the break. Dortmund’s attacking trio (e.g. Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi, Julian Brandt) will test Lille’s defense, while Lille will look to exploit any counter opportunities.
Prediction – Borussia Dortmund: Dortmund’s class and European experience should see them through, likely by winning at home and holding firm in a tense away leg.
An all-Bundesliga heavyweight clash pits traditional giants Bayern against Xabi Alonso’s exciting Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen actually pipped Bayern to the league title last season, proving they can go toe-to-toe. This year Bayern have reasserted themselves, leading the Bundesliga by 8 points and drawing 0-0 with Leverkusen just last week. Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern boast immense Champions League experience and star quality (Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, etc.), but Leverkusen’s youthful, fast-breaking attack (with Florian Wirtz pulling strings) can trouble any defense. “We know we have the quality to beat Bayern… but we have great respect for them,” said Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes.
Prediction – Bayern Munich: Bayern’s depth and big-game know-how will prevail over two close matches, though Leverkusen will make it very difficult. Don’t be surprised if extra time or away goals (if they counted) come into play.
Dutch champions Feyenoord face a stern test against 2023 Champions League runners-up Inter Milan. Feyenoord come in as the second Eredivisie team in this stage (joining PSV), having navigated the playoffs successfully. They play attractive, high-tempo football but have lost manager Arne Slot (now at Liverpool) and aren’t as dominant as last year domestically. Inter, meanwhile, are battle-hardened – they’re the only Italian team left after heavyweights like Juventus and AC Milan fell in the playoffs. Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side is rock-solid at the back and lethal on the counter, led by Lautaro Martínez up front.
Prediction – Inter Milan: Inter’s tactical discipline and experience give them the upper hand. Feyenoord will put up a fight, especially at home, but Inter should grind out a win and advance, keeping Italy’s hopes alive in the competition.
**Here’s the amended quarter-final predictions, once Liverpool’s exit has been taken into account. As you will discover, AI’s tip for the 2025 Champions League Winner remains the same**
Aston Villa’s fairytale run has been one of the stories of the tournament. Unai Emery’s tactical nous and disciplined team structure have helped them defy expectations, with impressive wins over Bayern Munich in the group stage and Club Brugge in the knockouts. Their strong midfield, led by Tielemans and Kamara, along with a sharp attack featuring Ollie Watkins, makes them difficult to break down. PSG, however, have one of the most potent attacks in Europe, led by Mbappé and Dembélé. While their campaign has been inconsistent, their dramatic penalty win over Liverpool showcased resilience. Their talent level remains far superior to Villa’s, and across two legs, they should have enough to break down the English side’s defensive setup.
Prediction: PSG to win – their superior squad depth and attacking firepower will ultimately prove too much for Villa.
Arsenal have emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting teams under Mikel Arteta, with a fluid attacking system led by Ødegaard, Saka, and a solid defensive core. Their dominant performances against PSV and their high-energy style make them a genuine threat. However, facing Real Madrid at this stage is a different challenge. Ancelotti’s side, despite some inconsistencies earlier in the tournament, have proven their ability to deliver when it matters, overcoming both Manchester City and Atlético Madrid in previous rounds. With a squad that thrives in the Champions League – featuring Vinícius Júnior, Bellingham, and Modrić – Real have the perfect balance of experience and match-winning quality to navigate past Arsenal. The Gunners’ lack of deep Champions League experience might show against a team that has made winning this competition a habit.
Prediction: Real Madrid to win – their experience and big-game mentality will be the deciding factor against Arsenal’s youthful exuberance.
Barcelona’s attacking firepower has been on full display, with young stars like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha thriving alongside veterans such as Lewandowski. Their high-scoring performances against Benfica and Bayern Munich in the group stage showed their ability to break down top opposition. Dortmund, last year’s runners-up, have a well-drilled system and a dangerous attack led by Serhou Guirassy. While they’ve been defensively solid, their form has wavered, and they lack the same level of squad depth and individual brilliance that Barcelona possesses. Over two legs, Barcelona’s dynamic play and superior quality in midfield should give them the edge.
Prediction: Barcelona to win – their attacking depth and form make them favorites against Dortmund.
This is a clash of styles, with Bayern’s aggressive attacking approach up against Inter’s disciplined defensive setup. Bayern have looked shaky at times but were dominant in their last-16 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Harry Kane’s goal-scoring prowess and their experience in knockout football make them a formidable force. Inter Milan, on the other hand, have been the most defensively sound team in the tournament, conceding just one goal in the group stage. They are a counter-attacking threat, with Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram forming a dangerous forward partnership. While Inter will make it difficult for Bayern, the Bavarians’ attacking power and ability to break down defensive sides should see them through in a tight contest.
Prediction: Bayern Munich to win – their firepower and home advantage in the second leg give them the edge over Inter’s resolute defense.
Real Madrid’s experience in handling high-pressure situations will be their biggest advantage here. PSG have long struggled at this stage, and while they boast incredible attacking quality, they remain vulnerable against top teams. Mbappé’s ability to break through defenses will be crucial, but Real’s midfield control and ability to slow the game down will work in their favor. Ancelotti’s side knows how to navigate semi-finals, and with players like Bellingham and Vinícius, they have the match-winners to get them over the line.
Prediction: Real Madrid to win – their composure in big games and superior tactical discipline will outclass PSG’s attacking chaos.
A rematch of past classic encounters, this promises to be an end-to-end battle. Barcelona’s attacking prowess will test Bayern’s backline, while Bayern’s goal-scoring ability, led by Kane, will put massive pressure on Barcelona’s defense. The key factor here will be Bayern’s experience in late-stage Champions League ties. Barcelona’s young team has been outstanding, but Bayern’s depth and superior physicality give them the slight edge over two legs. Playing the second leg in Munich will also be a huge advantage for the German side.
Prediction: Bayern Munich to win – their experience and home advantage will see them through in a closely fought tie.
The final in Munich sets up a dream scenario, with Bayern looking to win on home soil and Real Madrid aiming for yet another European crown. Real Madrid’s ability to handle pressure and deliver on the biggest stage makes them the favorites, but Bayern’s motivation to win at home will push them to the limit. This could come down to individual brilliance, and Real Madrid’s track record in finals suggests they will find a way to win, even if Bayern dominate for stretches.
Prediction: Real Madrid to win – their experience, big-game mentality, and ability to rise to the occasion will help them secure another Champions League title.
