Week 7 of the NFL season is just a few days away and it’s been an important week for many historic single-game performances. Whether it was a few years ago or a few decades ago, there have been some Week 7 performances that have become an important part of the NFL’s history. Here are just a few of those incredible Week 7 performances.
The Cowboys were matched up with the Rams in Week 7 of the 2011 season, and nobody could have predicted the night that DeMarco Murray was about to have. It had been a rough start to the season for St. Louis as the Rams were still winless coming into Week 7 and their defensive unit was the biggest issue.
It was clear from the opening kickoff that the Cowboys wanted to run all over the Rams. They fed Murray early and often which led to him racking up the yards by halftime. He was limited in the second half of the game due to the big lead that Dallas had, but Murray still finished with 253 rushing yards on just 25 attempts. He also added one of the many touchdowns that the Cowboys scored that day.
To this day, Murray is still ninth in single-game rushing yards in NFL history. He’s tied with Jonathan Taylor, who ran for 253 yards in 2021. Murray’s record has been standing for several years and is likely to still be standing for several more.
The list of quarterbacks who have thrown for over 500 yards in a single game is very slim, and on October 23, 2022, Joe Burrow nearly added his name to the list. The Bengals were matched up with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 of the 2022 season and Cincinnati was looking to improve their record from 3-3 to a winning 4-3. The game plan was simple: let Burrow do what he wanted.
The Bengals proceeded to attack the Falcons secondary immediately. Burrow was feeding off of the young and inexperienced cornerbacks and he finished with an absurd 481 passing yards. The franchise quarterback completed 34 of his 42 passes and three of those completions were for touchdowns. Not only that, but Burrow also ran for 20 yards and a touchdown. The Falcons just couldn’t stop Burrow through the air or on the ground.
Burrow’s performance in Week 7 ranks him 35th all-time in passing yards in a single game. The QB is still in the beginning of his prime, so who knows, maybe he could beat his own record one day.
It was a divisional matchup in Week 7 of the 2007 season as Tom Brady and the Patriots traveled to South Florida to take on the Dolphins. The Patriots were a perfect 6-0 coming into Week 7 and the New England offense had looked unstoppable in the first few weeks. The main reason for their success was one man: Tom Brady.
Brady was perfect in that game against Miami. Usually, that’s a subjective opinion. However, this time, it was objective. Brady was 21 for 25 for 354 yards and tossed an absurd 6 touchdowns en route to New England’s 49-28 victory. Brady achieved a perfect passer rating which made him one of the few quarterbacks to ever achieve a perfect passer rating in a single game.
