Being an athletic brute is only an upside in a sport like football. In the NFL, we see young and old players of large proportions get recruited mainly for linesman positions. While this isn’t always the case, it’s certainly evident that they thrive in those positions.
Of course, there are a bunch of giant players in the NFL, which is why in this article, we’ll outline the tallest players in the NFL today, including how tall they are, and what team(s) they play for, along with some of their current stats.
Mike McGlinchey starts our list of tallest players in the NFL today, starting his career for the San Francisco 49ers. He comes tied for 3rd place for being the tallest player currently in the NFL and recently joined the Denver Broncos as a tackle in 2023. At just age 30, McGlinchey accumulated 5,503 career offensive snaps and most look very intimidating for incoming defensemen at a height of 6’8”.
McGlinchey didn’t miss a game over the course of his first 5 years in the league, although his 2024 season with the Broncos has seen him spend some time on the Injured Reserve list.
The second 6’ 8” player on this list is none other than Calais Campbell, tied for 3rd on the list of tallest players in the NFL today. Campbell started his career for the Arizona Cardinals in 2008 and currently plays for the Miami Dolphins as a defensive tackle. For most of his career, he played left defensive end before switching to right defensive end, with 247 games played. The experienced Tallman also managed 3 interceptions and a whopping 13 interceptions recovered throughout his career to go along with a combined 872 tackles. He made the 2017 All Pros team and 6 NFL Pro Bowls making him not just an incredibly tall NFL player, but a good one.
Not just that, he has also been known to rumble in for a touchdown (or 3) over the course of his career. And everyone loves a Big Man TD!
The last 6’ 8” monstrous NFL player who is tied for 3rd on the list of tallest players in the NFL today is Orlando Brown Jr., offensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals. With over just 101 games to his career, he’’d been a part of 6,386 offensive snaps, and much like McGlinchey would be terrifying to come up against when trying to blitz the opposing quarterback.
Brown came out of Oklahoma as a highly-rated prospect, but his performance in the Combine was somewhat less than stellar, as you can see in this video:
He has overcome this shaky start, and having been signed by the Bengals after originally being drafted in the 3rd round by the Ravens, Brown has stepped up to the mark. In 2024, he earned the distinction of being nominated by the Bengals as the Walter Payton Man of the Year, demonstrating just how far his journey has taken him.
Moving on to second place on the list of the tallest players in the NFL today is the towering 6’ 9” Tackle known as Trent Brown, currently the offensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals. At just 31 years old, Brown is still going strong, as he started his career back in 2015 for the 49ers before accumulating 6,085 offensive snaps up to now in 2024. Throw in one Pro Bowl back in 2019 and Trent Brown makes the perfect wall for your quarterback, as well as one of the current tallest players in the NFL today.
Unfortunately Brown suffered a patellar tendon injury against the Washington Commanders which put him out of the rest of the season, but we hope to see him fully-recovered and back in action next year.
Coming in at the number one spot for the tallest player still playing in the NFL is 6’ 10” Dan Skipper. The Detroit Lions tackle has proved his mettle already despite not making a huge number of appearances in the league, having gotten there the hard way, as we shall see. Dan Skipper of the Detroit Lions takes the number one tallest spot for any current NFL player at the towering height of 6 ’10”.
Skipper’s route to the NFL has not been without its challenges, as despite a promising college career he was undrafted in 2017, possibly due to the fact that pre-draft tests revealed a chronic blood condition. After bouncing around 6 practice squads, Skipper finally found a home at the Lions, albeit at the fourth attempt! Another notable career milestone was achieved in December 2024, when Skipper caught a 9-yard TD from Jared Goff to score against the Bills – his first ever NFL touchdown.
