The NFL regular season is heading into Week 18, which means there are plenty of playoff implications this weekend. That is no different for this matchup, with the Miami Dolphins taking on the New York Jets. While the Jets’ season has been a disaster, the Dolphins, sitting at 8-8, have found a way to keep their playoff chances alive with a win and a little help. Let’s break down each team’s Week 17 matchup, preview this game and give our Dolphins vs Jets pick.
The Dolphins traveled to Cleveland to take on the Browns without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. They were able to find a way to win to keep their playoff hopes alive, as they prevailed 20-3.
Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley had a terrific day, going 22-for-26 for 225 yards and a touchdown. He was also the Dolphins’ leading rusher, with 52 yards on seven carries, while also finding the end zone on the ground.
With Huntley leading the team in rushing, De’Von Achane had a quiet game. He had 10 carries for just 25 yards and only two catches for 13 yards, disappointing his fantasy football owners everywhere.
With Tua Tagovailoa out, Tyreek Hill had struggled for most of the season. That was not the case in this matchup against the Browns. Hill caught all nine of his targets for 105 yards, changing the narrative on his season. Jonnu Smith continued his hot streak, catching a touchdown pass from Huntley.
As mentioned above, the Jets’ season has been a disaster. That did not change in Week 17, as they lost to the Buffalo Bills, 40-14. At one point in the game, it was 33-0.
The offense could not get going during the first three quarters. Aaron Rodgers went 12-for-18 for just 112 yards and two interceptions. Tyrod Taylor finished the game at quarterback, leading the offense to two fourth-quarter touchdown drives. Taylor went 11-for-14 for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
The touchdowns went to Garrett Wilson, who also had seven catches for 66 yards, and Tyler Conklin, who finished with eight catches for 57 yards. With the offense struggling until the fourth quarter, the running game never got going for the Jets either. Breece Hall had just 10 carries for 45 yards. It will be interesting to see who suits up for this Jets team this week, as it means so little for them.
The Dolphins are going to give everything they can to win this game against their divisional rival. They can get into the playoffs with a win and a Denver Broncos loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Both games will be taking place at the same time, so the Dolphins will not know ahead of time if they are alive in the playoff race.
Looking at this matchup between the Dolphins and the Jets, it appears that the Jets’ defense has thrown in the towel this season after allowing 40 points to the Bills in Week 17. With that said, we are looking for Tyreek Hill to have a big game against the New York defense. It seems that D.J. Reed and Sauce Gardner have taken a step back this season and it won’t get any easier in this matchup.
With all that said, we see Tyreek Hill possibly breaking a big one for a touchdown in this game. Our Dolphins vs Jets pick is for Tyreek Hill to score a touchdown at any point during this matchup.
