If you ever golf, you’d know that every course is different in its way with unique hole setups, varying weather and climate and the dreaded hazards. Some courses also showcase much longer distance holes, many of which have multiple par 5s and 6s.
In this article, we’ll look at five of the longest golf holes in the world, including where you can locate them, what hole number they are and how far it is from the tee box to the flag.
The first of many extremely long distant holes you may find comes from the Penati Golf Resort in Slovakia. Particularly, the back tees are exactly 783 yards away from the hole, equating to a par-6 professionally, although golfers often play the hole as a par-5 with 539 yards to the hole.
Regardless, this hole may be the shortest distance on the list, but it is by no means short, as golfers need to hit a perfectly straight shot down the middle past two bordering bunkers to have any chance of scoring well on this one.
Up next is the Theodora Golf Club in Romania, which is notorious for its 803-yard par 6 on the final hole 18. Teasing golfers before they get back to the clubhouse, players must endure over 800 yards of field before sinking it in the hole.
The worst part of it all is that the end stretch includes an island green, so if you’re not “on par” with this one, your scorecard may take a beating right at the end of your golf day.
Following up the 803 yards at Theodora Golf Club is the American-based golf course of Meadow Farms, Virginia, featuring a famous hole two-thirds of the way through the course. At hole #12, golfers overlook a hole consisting of three separate selections with multiple water hazards, all while traversing 841 yards to reach the hole.
If water isn’t enough for you on this never-ending stretch of the fairway, you’ll eventually reach bunkers on both sides of the green, so not only is the distance a factor, but high accuracy is a must.
The first of two Asian-based long-distance holes (and one of the longest in the world) is the famed hole #7 at Satsuki Golf Club, Japan. If 964 yards sounds terrifying, know that this hole plays as a par-7, a length that many golfers won’t even bother with because most holes aren’t traditionally this long!
It is a nice cushy, beautiful stretch of grass, but your day could worsen if you happen to shank your shots.
Taking first place for the longest playable hole on any golf course in the world is South Korea’s Gunsan Country Club hole #3. If you thought Japan brought the longest hole game, know the Gunsan Country Club’s third hole stretches over 1,000 yards of grass (1,097 to be exact) before players can even dream of sinking the ball.
If length isn’t all you’re worried about, take heed to the entire left side of the hole, which features a water hazard, only for a few sand bunkers to be scattered in the mix. Still, any golfer on this one can take pride in knowing they participated in the longest golf hole in the world.
