Week 2 of the NFL season is in the rearview mirror now, and it is time to look ahead to Week 3. We have a great Sunday afternoon matchup between two teams who need a win. The 0-2 Baltimore Ravens are traveling to Dallas to take on the 1-1 Cowboys.
In this article, we dive into our Ravens @ Dallas picks and break down this Sunday afternoon matchup in Dallas.
Unfortunately, these two teams and their fanbases are coming off disappointing losses. The Baltimore Ravens blew a late fourth-quarter lead to the Las Vegas Raiders in their home opener. The Cowboys also lost their home opener to the New Orleans Saints by a large 44-19 deficit.
It was a tough loss for the Ravens in Week 2, as it felt like they were in control for the entirety of the game. The Ravens offense had a solid day, averaging over 5.5 yards per carry on the ground while reigning MVP Lamar Jackson threw for just under 250 yards. Derrick Henry led the backfield, getting 18 carries for 84, and he found the end zone. The Ravens’ top wideout on the day was Zay Flowers, who looks to be the alpha out of the pass catchers ahead of Mark Andrews. Flowers caught seven of his 11 targets for 91 yards, while Andrews caught four passes for 51 yards.
It was the Ravens defense that let them down in the fourth quarter. They allowed a Gardner Minshew-led offense to score 13 fourth-quarter points, blowing a 23-13 and losing 26-13. The Ravens now sit at 0-2 for the first time since 2015.
As for the Cowboys, the Saints came into Dallas and blew the breaks of the Cowboys defense. The Saints, led by Derek Carr, went to Dallas and scored 35 first-half points. They went on to win 44-19, and it felt like the Cowboys had zero chance of winning that game from the first quarter on. The Cowboys offense played decent in the first half, but they were shut down in the second half of that football game. QB Dak Prescott had a rough day, getting sacked three times and throwing two interceptions. He hooked up with Ceedee Lamb for a touchdown in the first half for 65 yards, but that was the highlight of their day.
There is so much on the line for both teams heading into Week 3. If the Ravens lose, they fall to 0-3, and their playoff chances take a huge hit. On the other side, the Cowboys need to make a statement after their 16-game home regular season win streak was snapped at the hands of the New Orleans Saints.
Looking at this matchup, you have two of the best 10 quarterbacks in the league, Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott. Both of these defenses have had a bit of a slower start to the season, making us believe this game could be a shootout on Sunday afternoon.
The Cowboys Achilles heel on defense is their run defense. They are coming off a game in which they allowed four total touchdowns to running back Alvin Kamara while also allowing him to rush for 115 yards. In Week 1, they also surrendered a touchdown on the ground to Jerome Ford.
Our first Ravens @ Cowboys NFL pick is that more than 48 points will be scored in this matchup. As for our second Ravens @ Cowboys NFL pick, we will take someone who has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks. That man is ‘King Henry’ Derrick Henry.
