The NFL is extremely popular in America, and with the highest quality football around with top-notch advertising, it’s no surprise to see many teams accumulate a large following. With NFL playoffs in the coming months boiling up to the highly anticipated Super Bowl, we’re breaking down the most followed NFL teams based on their official Instagram follower counts.
Starting off the list is the fifth-most followed NFL team account – the Philadelphia Eagles, with approximately 3.8 million Instagram followers on their main account. The Eagles just edge ahead of another famous name in the NFL in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Philly’s team has appeared in 4 Super Bowls over the years, finally claiming the Vince Lombardi trophy in 2017. Of course Philadelphia is widely known as one of the most sports-mad cities in the country, which no doubt explains the Eagles’ appearance high on this particular list.
Up next is one of the best modern NFL teams in terms of winning records, the San Francisco 49ers, with around 3.85 million followers. It’s no surprise the California-based team is one of the most popular franchises, having won more playoff games with more NFC Championship appearances than any other team. While the 49ers haven’t touched a Super Bowl trophy since 1995, they’d be dominant throughout the 80s to mid-90s, winning five Super Bowl titles and eight NFC Championships. Overall, it’s no shocker the 49ers’ Instagram account has a heavy following, especially considering their team is the sixth-most valuable franchise at $6.8 billion as of 2024.
While you’d expect the Kansas City Chiefs to make this list, 4.3 million followers is a massive following on Instagram. It may seem surprising to see a team with only four Super Bowl titles higher up on the list than a team like the Steelers, although the Kansas City Chiefs made four Super Bowl appearances between 2020 and 2024, winning three of them in 2020, 2023 and 2024, giving them the potential to be the first back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl Champions since the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. As we said before, people love to follow good football teams, and in the modern era NFL, the Chiefs are one of the winningest teams.
As one of the most popular teams in the history of football with Texas roots, the Dallas Cowboys come in as the second-most followed NFL franchise account on Instagram. With eight Super Bowl appearances and five Vince Lombardi Trophies to their name, the Cowboys tie the 49ers for the most Super Bowls won by any NFC team. Even though it appears the Cowboys’ main success occurred before the 1990s, die-hard football fans will support Dallas through thick and thin, amassing a whopping 4.9 million followers on Instagram, only to be outshined by one other account – the New England Patriots.
With six Super Bowl victories to their name, all occurring since 2002, the New England Patriots are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history, although they beat out their Instagram follower count by over a million. The prestigious Patriots also boast the NFL record for most Super Bowl appearances (11), so it’s no surprise New England amasses more than 5 million followers and counting. Legendary coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady can be largely credited with helping create this dynasty, and are most likely the reason people began supporting the Patriots on all accounts, including Instagram.
Here is how every NFL team fares when it comes to their Insta follower numbers:
