With how the NFL is played today, records are broken and set week in and week out. With Week 10 of the NFL season already here, this article will break down which records have been broken in Week 10 of the NFL season. We will explain who broke the record, which team it was for and who they took the record from.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud had one of the most impressive rookie seasons that we have seen in NFL history. On his way to breaking multiple records in 2023, Stroud tied a record in Week 10 of that season.
Stroud had thrown for 826 yards combined in Weeks 9 and 10, which is unprecedented. He joined Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton as the only rookie to throw for over 800 yards in a two-game span. Not only that, Stroud and Newton are the only two rookie QBs in NFL history to throw for over 350 yards in back-to-back games. It truly was an outstanding rookie season from Stroud in 2023.
Justin Herbert has quickly become one of the NFL’s better QBs. He continued to build off a strong start to his career in Week 10 of the 2023 season, as he threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns in a loss to the Detroit Lions.
With those 323 yards in that game, Herbert set the record for most passing yards during the players’ first four years of their careers. He passed some elite company while doing so, as Dan Marino and Payton Manning were one and two in the record book. Hopefully, for Chargers fans everywhere, Herbert can join them in the Hall of Fame one day.
Larry Fitzgerald had a Hall of Fame career with the Arizona Cardinals. In Week 10 of the 2018 NFL season lost to the Chiefs 26-14, but history was made that day for the Cardinals wide receiver.
Fitzgerald moved ahead of Terrell Owens for the second-most receiving yards in NFL history with 15,952. He finished his career with 17,492 yards, which is still the second-most only behind the greatest to ever do it, Jerry Rice.
Frank Gore had a long career with multiple teams, including the 49ers, Colts, Dolphins, Bills and Jets. In Week 10 of the 2018 season, Gore was a member of the Miami Dolphins, who lost to the Green Bay Packers that day 31-12. Gore had a good day carrying the ball 13 times for 90 yards.
In doing so, Gore set the record for most consecutive 500-yard+ seasons in NFL history. Two Hall of Famers, Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton previously held the record, so Gore clearly had to earn his playing stripes to reach this feat. That was a great company to vault ahead of, considering they are two of the best to ever play the RB position.
The career of Justin Fields in Chicago was quite the roller coaster ride for him and Bears fans. Fields set multiple NFL records that season with his legs, but he perhaps set his most unique record in Week 10 during the 2022 season.
The Bears lost to the Lions that day, which was a trend in the Justin Fields era in Chicago. His stat line was 12-20 for 167 yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns while also rushing for 147 yards. However, in the loss, Fields became the first quarterback to throw for two touchdowns while rushing for two touchdowns and over 100 yards. It will be interesting to see if this record will be broken anytime soon because it is unique, with few QBs having the mobility that Justin Fields possesses.
