This season has not gone the way the New York Gants or Carolina Panthers had hoped. Both teams come into this one sitting with 2-7 records and are desperate for wins. This makes for an enticing matchup as both teams try to find their footing and gain momentum heading into next season.
In this article, we will break down this Giants @ Panthers game in Munich, Germany, while making our favorite NFL pick from this matchup. Let’s dive in.
The New York Giants are coming off a tough loss to their rival Washington Commanders 27-22. They made the game close with the final score, but it never felt like the Giants would figure out a way to win.
Quarterback Daniel Jones was efficient on the day, going 20-26 for 174 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also added 54 yards on the ground with his legs. All in all, it was a pretty good game for Jones, considering. He only took two sacks behind a banged-up offensive line, but he did have one fumble, which ended in a turnover.
Looking at the backfield of the Giants, Tyrone Tracy dominated the touches. We got the ball 17 times total, while veteran Devin Singletary saw just seven touches. Tracy finished with 66 yards, so he did not have a blow-up day, but it is now clearly his backfield.
As for the Giants pass-catchers, Malik Nabers led that room with nine catches for just 59 yards. Theo Johnson and Chris Manhertz caught the two Daniel Jones passing touchdowns. The rookie tight end Johnson is starting to show some flashes, showing why the Giants drafted him in this year’s past draft.
The Panthers had a better week than the Giants, as they are coming off their second win of the season. They beat their division-rival New Orleans Saints 23-22, leading to the firing of Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen on Monday morning.
Bryce Young started at quarterback for the injured Andy Dalton and was a solid game manager. Young went 16-26 for 171 yards, one touchdown and one interception. What we liked seeing from Young was that he was decisive in what he wanted to do with the football and was able to distribute the ball to his playmakers.
As for the RB room, Chuba Hubbard led the room in carries with 17, finishing with 72 yards and two touchdowns. He continues to have a strong season, however, now he will have to share carries with Jonathan Brooks, whom the Panthers drafted in this year’s past draft. It sounds as though Brooks will make his season debut against the Giants.
Seven different Panthers pass-catchers caught passes in this game. They were led by rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, who caught four of five targets for 87 yards. It was fellow rookie Xavier Leggette who caught Young’s lone touchdown, and he finished the day with four catches for 33 yards. Leggette has started to make his name as a red zone threat for the Panthers, which makes sense with him being a bigger-bodied guy. That was his fourth touchdown on the season.
With both teams struggling this season on offense, it makes for a hard time trying to make a pick in this one. One glaring stat that stuck out to me while going through this matchup is the Panthers have been the worst defense at stopping the run in the entire NFL.
That bodes well for someone like running back Tyrone Tracy in the Giants offense. We mentioned above that Tracy has taken over the backfield. Tracy has seen at least 16 carries in four of his past five games and scored a touchdown in two of those contests.
Not only are the Panthers allowing a ton of yards on the ground to running backs, but they have also allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the league as well with 13 in nine games. When the Giants get in the red zone, we expect them to run the ball in those trying to avoid mistakes from Daniel Jones.
With that said, our New York Giants @ Carolina Panthers NFL pick is on Tyrone Tracy to find the end zone.
